Most home theater packages arrive missing the parts that actually finish the job: the interconnect, the speaker cable, the wall brackets, the stand that puts the center channel at ear height. The 8800 Elite Series ships with all of them - 24-carat gold-plated A/V interconnects, IA 5.1-SC hybrid speaker cables, four swivel brackets, a center-channel stand and a tuner antenna. The price you see is the price of a finished room.
A soundbar simulates surround by bouncing sound off your walls and hoping the room cooperates. Bannister ships six separate cabinets driven by six separate amplifier stages: front left and right, a center channel of its own, two surrounds behind the seating and a dedicated subwoofer. Placement does the work that processing otherwise has to fake, which is why the effect holds up in an ordinary living room with an ordinary sofa against an ordinary wall.
A thousand of the system's 2,500 peak watts go to the subwoofer alone, driving the Bass ZX module from 20 Hz to 100 Hz. Giving the bottom octave its own amplifier is what stops it stealing headroom from dialogue: the low end arrives as physical pressure, and the satellites get on with the job their 2.5-inch drivers are actually good at.
Every connection on the back of the receiver is labelled, every cable is pre-cut and marked for its channel, and all four satellites have aimable brackets in the carton. Dialogue gets its own center channel and its own 300 W amplifier stage, so speech stays legible when the score and the effects are both loud. The 20 Hz bass module supplies the part of an action scene you feel rather than hear.
Real surround cabinets behind the seating mean directional audio is genuinely directional - footsteps behind you are behind you, not a stereo approximation. Connect a console straight to the digital input and the surround mix arrives intact.
Crowd noise wrapped around the seating and commentary anchored in the center channel is the difference between watching a match and being at one. Concert films get the same treatment.

The home theater aisle is built around an unspoken second purchase. It is the combined peak figure across all six amplifier stages: 300 W peak for each of the two front channels, 300 W peak for the center, 300 W peak for each of the two surround channels and 1,000 W peak for the subwoofer. Peak power describes the instantaneous maximum an amplifier stage can deliver on a transient - a gunshot, a kick drum - not the level it sustains all evening, and every manufacturer in this category quotes it the same way. What the number is genuinely useful for is comparing headroom: a system with 1,000 W committed to the subwoofer alone has room to reproduce a loud low-frequency moment without the rest of the mix collapsing around it.
No. The 7.1-channel digital receiver is built into the subwoofer cabinet, with its own display and controls on the front panel and the labelled speaker terminals on the back. There is nothing else to buy, match or find shelf space for - one mains lead and one digital audio cable from the television, and the system is running.
The system wants enough depth to put the two surrounds behind the seating rather than level with it, which in practice means a room from roughly 11 × 13 feet (3.5 × 4 m) upwards. It works in smaller rooms too - you place the surrounds on the side walls just behind the sofa and turn the subwoofer down a little. What matters more than floor area is getting the satellites to ear height and angling them at the seat, which is exactly what the swivel brackets in the carton are for.

I set the 8800 Elite Series up in the living room last weekend and the difference against our old soundbar is enormous. The bass from the Bass ZX technology is simply massive. In action films it literally moves the sofa, but without any muddy or unpleasant boom. The Liquid Diamond tweeters render the highs in a lot of detail. Plug-and-play setup with no headaches - I ran it straight into the digital input on our 8K TV. A clear five stars.

I care a great deal about audio fidelity and I was pleasantly surprised by the Kevlar-reinforced drivers. The response is fast, the midrange is balanced, and the separation between the 7.1 channels creates a very precise soundstage. For a complete package with a high-power receiver built in, the performance is at studio level.
I installed the Bannister 8800 in the basement gaming room, connected to the console. The experience in competitive games is incredible: you hear footsteps behind you and the exact direction of every explosion. The Slim-Line remote responds instantly, and the black finish is understated and well made. An excellent upgrade.
